Phase I Dam Safety Inspections: Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation — Various Locations throughout Central & Western Massachusetts

LEI was retained by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to inspect and evaluate the present conditions of 22 dams and their appurtenant structures to provide information that will assist in both prioritizing dam repair needs and planning and conducting maintenance and operations programs. The dams were located in 15 central and western Massachusetts towns.

The investigations were divided into four parts: 1) obtain and review available reports, investigations and data previously submitted to the dam owners pertaining to the dams and their appurtenant structures; 2) perform visual inspections of the sites; 3) evaluate the status of emergency action plans for the sites and; 4) prepare and submit final reports presenting the evaluations of the structures, including recommendations for remedial actions and opinions of probable costs.
