Howard Reservoir Dam Gate House Evaluation — Manchester, Connecticut

The Town of Manchester retained LEI to conduct a detailed inspection of the Howard Reservoir dam gate house and develop recommendations for improvements. The gate house structure, constructed in 1906, is 50 feet deep and controls flow from 14- and 20-inch inlet pipes and a 24-inch outlet pipe.

LEI’s dive team inspected the inlet pipes in the reservoir and installed temporary plates to stop flow into the structure. LEI’s dam engineers then inspected the structure and all three flow control gates and obtained measurements for future improvement plans. While the chamber was dewatered, LEI video inspected the inlet and outlet pipes to determine their conditions and observe potential leakage.

LEI prepared a final report, summarizing findings, and made recommendations for improvements to this historic structure.
