New Water Booster Pumping Station — Colchester, Connecticut

Working closely with Colchester Water Department staff, LEI designed a new water booster pumping station to serve approximately one-third of the town's population who had marginal water pressures and fire flows. The major challenge was to provide a station which would meet both minimum overnight as well as peak summer daytime demands, and provide fire protection as well, without construction of a large water storage tank.

LEI designed a series of vertical turbine pumps, run off of variable frequency drives, which maintained constant distribution pressures for flows from 1 GPM to 500 GPM. A 2,000 GPM vertical turbine pump was included to provide increased fire protection. The project included significant water distribution piping improvements.
