Water & Union Streets Road Reconstruction & Streetscape —
Danielson, Connecticut

The Town of Killingly reconstructed Water Street adjacent to the Danielson Downtown Business district to improve traffic circulation and attract new business to the area. The project included the realignment of approximately 1,200 LF of Water Street for two-way traffic, realignment of the Main Street-Water Street intersection, construction of a new connecting road from the north end of Water Street to Commerce Avenue, and the construction of new concrete sidewalks to establish links to the Quinebaug River Trail and the Five Mile River Pond pedestrian bridge. Also included were drainage and parking improvements, streetscape enhancements, and lighting design.

The full-depth roadway reconstruction of Water and Union Streets included replacement and relocation of water mains and sanitary sewers and stormwater drainage. Phase I funding — the northern half of the project — was through a Small Cities Community Development Block Grant.
